How's Your Weekend?
I enjoyed my Sunday School lesson yesterday as married couples discussed raising responsible children and making them accountable for their own actions. My lesson didn't stop at church because as soon as we walked in the house, my nine -year old asked if he could get on the computer. My reply was, "No, you may not. Did you read your Bible this morning?" He said he didn't and was quick to let me know we all read our Bibles while at church. Still trying to get on the computer, he said, "Mama, how about I read my Bible through the week and not on the weekends?" Hmmm…good idea, but wrong Mama! I said to him, "How about God waking you up on weekdays and not on the weekends?" My computer craved son and I had a brief chat about spending one on one time with God - everyday.
My thoughts went back to my class and a testimony shared by one of the Mothers of adult children. She said with such confidence and conviction that she knew she had done everything God called her to do in regards to raising her children. I want that same confidence when my children leave the house. I can't be complacent in teaching them about their Heavenly Father and they have to know being His servant is not a part-time job, yet a life-time commitment. How will I communicate these life lessons to my children? By walking the walk as a Mother. Children live what they learn, so maybe I've been a little relaxed myself on the weekends - actually, I was very relaxed this weekend! As children find time for vain amusements, Mothers must emphasize the importance of including God in their everyday activities. As God continues to raise my children through me, He continues to use my children to raise me!
